Our new Summer 2024 collection, ‘Chasing The Sun’, has arrived online and in store, inspired by wanderings through southeast Europe. Featuring an abundance of lightweight ecological linen fabrics, unstructured linen tailoring, and a colour palette reminiscent of the sun-bleached landscape and architecture of the region, the collection reflects the heady ambiance of unrelenting hot days by the glistening coast.
“This collection was born out of the idea of a modern ‘grand tour’ and how one would pack for it today. The original grand tours were essentially aristocratic jollies through Europe undertaken by young men between the 17th and 19th centuries, almost like an educational rite of passage. They would often travel with huge entourages of clothing. So it got me thinking about how that would translate to a 21st-century journey, and what that wardrobe would look like. Ultimately I wanted to create an elevated summer aesthetic that referenced the colours of the southern European landscape, with the versatility to have all bases covered, from relaxed beachwear to sophisticated tailoring.” Oliver Spencer
The collection, which was shot in the village of Ula, just outside Bodrum, Turkey, features an abundance of soft, slubby linen fabrics, providing a wonderfully laid-back textural handle throughout the unstructured tailoring, trousers, short-sleeve shirts and cropped jackets. Super soft cotton jersey takes the form of polo shirts and tees, while Terry cloth has been used to create a really tactile capsule of casual polos, shorts, and short-sleeve shirts. Stripes are a key element, coming in a multitude of forms from tonal pinstripes to much bolder deckchair stripes, complementing an array of subtle checks and pointelle details that contribute to the textural richness.
The palette of the collection references the chalky sun-bleached landscape of southern Europe, with core neutral tones of beige, stone, dusty ochre, cream, combined with sky blue, and navy hues. Accents of olive green and sage combine with hints of ice-cream tones. Tonal pinstripe details and dusty pink checks provide a soft geometry to the collection.
