It's Wide-Leg Season

It's Wide-Leg Season

There’s a quiet revolution happening below the waist this summer - wide-leg trousers are striding ahead, and they take up pride of place in our new Summer 26 collection. Our trio of Orsman, Morton, and Oxford Drawstring trousers shake up your silhouette while proving that loose-fit legs are the most intelligent way to dress when the mercury rises.

Wide-leg trousers have deep British roots. Back in the mid-1920s at Oxford University, a group of undergraduates rebelled against a ban on plus-fours in lectures. Their reaction? Trousers so extravagantly baggy they became known as Oxford Bags - flannel legs measuring up to 44 inches in circumference that swished with every step. What began as a cheeky workaround quickly became a symbol of youthful insouciance, later revived in the 1970s by Northern Soul dancers who needed serious movement in their strides. Fast-forward to 2026 and the silhouette feels more relevant than ever. Wide-leg trousers offer comfort without sloppiness, drape without drama, and that rare ability to look both sharp and utterly at ease, whether you’re pacing city pavements or kicking off sandals by the sea.

The beauty of volume lies in its versatility. These trousers elongate the silhouette, skim rather than cling, and create easy movement with every step. The generous cuts keep you cool, while the natural fabrics (lightweight tropical wools, linens, and breathable cottons) do the rest. Each style offers its own take on the wider cut. The Orsman is the true wide-leg hero - single-pleated at the waist to neatly gather the excess fabric, then flowing generously through the leg. It has the rebelliousness of the original Oxford Bags but cut in lightweight summer fabrics that make it feel modern and light.

The Morton strikes a more refined balance: still single-pleated and relaxed, but finished with a straight leg that keeps things slightly more tailored. It’s the one you reach for when you want volume with a touch more structure. Then there’s the soon-to-arrive Oxford Drawstring - the adjustable waistband and relaxed straight-leg cut make it supremely forgiving and easy to wear. It’s the trouser that happily switches from weekday 9-5 to weekend off-duty comfort.

Wide-leg season isn’t about making a loud statement, it’s about making the right one. Comfortable, confident, and properly British in spirit: generous where it counts, precise where it matters. Your summer wardrobe just got a whole lot more room to breathe.
