From Pistachio To Sage: Choose Your Green

From Pistachio To Sage: Choose Your Green

Green is one our favourite colours here at Oliver Spencer, not least for its diversity, spanning a vast spectrum of hues, each with a different personality, from the deep rich forest greens at one end, to the vibrant apple and acid green hues at the other. In the winter season, we naturally gravitate towards the dark tones, but in the spring and summer, a whole new gamut of tones open up for consideration, from military-inspired olives and earthy khaki tones to cooler tones such as pistachio and mint. Green is also the most visible colour to the human eye due to its wavelength, which helps to make it one of the easiest colours to incorporate into your wardrobe.

Padworth

The earthiest of this season's green tones, the Padworth hue is a deep khaki green, almost 'muddy' you might say. It's a great foil for those of you who prefer a muted palette, or regularly wear understated base tones such as black, charcoal, and navy, but it works equally well set against the much lighter gamut of creams and whites. It also pairs really well with our lighter green tones. This season we've used it to create our Treviscoe overshirt and our Riviera short-sleeve shirt, as well as a tie, all of which come in a lovely slubby linen cloth, perfect for sophisticated spring and summer fits.

Willow

Our Willow fabric is a beautifully soft terry cloth corduroy which we have produced in a really nice olive green tone. It's a great mid-range green - not too earthy, not to verdant, and a doddle to pair with most other tones, especially creams and navy blue hues. We've used it to create our Bradstone Jersey Jacket, which is a zip-through track top with a turn-down colour and a distinctly sporty aesthetic, as well as our Austell short-sleeve polo, a super versatile casual or resortwear piece that is perfect for elevating a pair of shorts or chinos.

Coney

On the olive spectrum, our Coney green would be somewhere around the Nocellara, smooth, maybe even pastel-like and dusty, but still with a certain depth to it. It sits perfectly in the middle of the green spectrum, which is why we've incorporated it into a broad slew of garments for the spring and summer seasons. From our zip-through western-inspired trucker that is our Norton jacket, to the versatile New York Special shirt, and the hybrid short jacket-cum-overshirt that is our Hythe jacket. We've also used it in our short-sleeve Riviera shirt as well as a linen tie, proving it can tick both casual and smart boxes with aplomb.

Kildale Forest

As the name suggests, Kildale Forest takes inspiration from the deep and rich green hues of forest foliage so you can expect a colour with both depth and vibrancy. As such, it's great paired with other solid tones such as navy, but we really love contrasting it with whites, creams beige/camel tones for a really sophisticated ensemble. We've used it in our Treviscoe overshirt, which is inspired by vintage military shirt silhouettes.

Tamar Pale

Exclusive to two new knitted shirt styles this season, the Tamar Pale brand of green is probably best described as pistachio, making it perfect for summer fits. It's almost pastel in nature, really easy on the eye, and great for complementing both light and dark tones in your fits. We deployed it in our short-sleeve Penhale polo shirt and our short-sleeve Mawes knitted shirt, both of which have a relaxed resortwear vibe to them thanks to the open crochet construction. Wear them with beige chinos or off-white tailored shorts and loafers for a casually elegant way of channelling The Talented Mr Ripley this summer.

Ashdown

Our Ashdown green could be best described as 'olive drab' but there's really nothing drab about it at all. We've used it exclusively in our Mansfield suit, which is made up of our perennial Mansfield peak lapel jacket and fishtail trousers, offering a really nice relaxed bit of tailoring for the summer. Unstructured and cut from cotton, the Mansfield suit is perfect for wearing casually, while also being smart enough for events such as summer weddings. We love styling it with light tone shirts or tees, then adding a touch of texture via some suede Derbies or loafers.
