Made in England

UK clothing manufacturing is still some of the best in the world and we should be championing it wherever and whenever we can. We have one of the richest outerwear and tailoring heritages the world over but over the last few decades so many jobs have been lost to cheap labour practices overseas, which produce poor quality clothing and have terrible human rights records. Not only that, we have lost many artisanal skills that were passed from generation to generation so it's important that we support the UK textiles and manufacturing industries where we can.

Our Spring and Summer collections consist of more organic cotton and linen than ever, and we're dedicated to continuing that trend. One important aspect of sustainability is reducing an individual product's carbon impact, and especially the number of miles it accrues in its lifetime.

That's why we manufacture all of our clothing in either the EU, or in the case of our outerwear, right here in the UK.

From our western-inspired Norton jackets to our Linfield bombers, this season's outerwear is cut and constructed right here in East London, which enables us to reduce our environmental impact and gives us huge benefits in terms of quality control, so you be assured that the Oliver Spencer coat or jacket you have purchased has been through the most rigorous quality testing. We only have to hop on our bikes to see the excellent working conditions, too.

At Oliver Spencer Studio too, one factor we consider when curating our roster of like-minded brands is where they are manufactured. When it comes to manufacturing, localism might not be the cheapest way to make products, but very often it's the best way, helping to evolve micro-industries that grow deep roots in a place by incorporating engendering local artisans.

Shopping local is a great step. Shopping brands that manufacture their products close to home is even better.

We're extremely proud of our on-going collaboration with the Northamptonshire-based shoemaker Solovair for example. Having visited their factory on a number of occasions, we've seen firsthand just how much passion and dedication they put into making each and every shoe. Our collective manufacturing principles are perfectly aligned, and we think that shows in the quality of the shoes that we have released with them.

Our most recent project with the modern eyewear maker Cubitts puts this concept front and centre. Together we've created a limited run of a new sunglasses frame (in three colourways) that are handmade right here in Cubitts' London atelier. Inspired by the classic S9 military-issue silhouette, the frame is proportionally balanced; featuring bold 52mm wide rectangle lenses, tempered by the saddle bridge and wide temples. Each frame features a hand chamfered browline, angular lugs, and hockey end temples engraved with the Oliver Spencer coordinates.
