The new Spring 24 collection by Oliver Spencer delivers a modern aesthetic full of sophisticated silhouettes for a contemporary wardrobe, inspired by the tones and shapes of late 70s menswear. As the 70s gave way to the 80s, there was a sense of the world changing from analog to digital, which made for a fertile creative period. Nowhere was this better expressed than in menswear, which saw disco-inspired tailoring morph into oversized suiting and preppy style. Through the use of ecological cloths such as organic cotton and linen rendered in a variety of utilitarian shapes that reference the palette and silhouettes of the era, the Spring 24 collection is a fresh and versatile approach to timeless menswear.
The collection’s colour palette borrows from a 70s aesthetic, with chocolate, mauve and sand tones all counterbalanced by rich navy, providing an understated approach to contemporary style that lends itself perfectly to Oli’s unstructured brand of relaxed tailoring.
Foremost among the casual silhouettes are a collection of blousons cut in a variety of lightweight ecological fabrics. The use of traditional tailoring cloths but for modern workwear shapes gives a unique appeal to 70s silhouettes such as the safari shirt, which has been produced in a short-sleeve style with matching trousers. Similarly, a new velour tracksuit brings a hint of nostalgia for 70s athleisure, while elements of the jersey have been given a textural treatment by way of tactile French terry cloth.
