Oli's Top Picks for Autumn

Oli's Top Picks for Autumn

I love these autumn months. The colours in the parks and the countryside are on the turn, resulting in swathes of reds and ambers and browns overpowering the faded greens, which is generally my queue to start wearing darker tones to assimilate with the environment. Autumn's also great because as the temperature drops, you can have fun with layering - shirts, knits, big coats, hats, scarves - they all come into play. What's more, the textural diversity on offer is that much greater than what spring and summer collections can ever provide.

Right now, the weather is definitely turning colder. There was ice on the top of my car this morning so I'm getting the big guns out - namely our Big coat is Mosedale black. It's a beauty of a double-breasted winter coat cut from a midweight recycled wool, and featuring a turn-down collar. We've actually made two variants of it in black - one has brass buttons which gives it more of a vintage military aesthetic which I'm loving at the moment. It feels very sartorial but not overly formal.

I'm wearing it here with another of my favourite shirt styles - our New York Special - in Sheridan cream. This is crafted from soft organic cotton, and the colour is stunning - really easy to style with browns, greens, even reds. It creates contrast against the dark tones which is important to give your looks some depth.

Continuing in a slightly military vein, I've also picked our classic crew neck knit, the Blenheim jumper, in an olive green/sage green tone. It has been woven using 100% extrafine wool so it's warm and cosy but without the bulk, which is useful when you're layering and don't want to overheat.

The trousers that I've gone for are our Osman style, inspired by Oxford bags from the 1920s, they are a wide-leg style with single pleats that add something really fresh and contemporary to the silhouette. The Jarman charcoal style I'm wearing have a very subtle chalk stripe to them which gives them some uniformity.

Finally, I've bookended the look with a pair of our new Oxblood Hi-Shine loafers in collaboration with the Northampton shoe maker Solovair. I'm not a sneakers guy and never have been so these are perfect for this look, but that's not to say sneakers wouldn't work here either. I just like the addition of polished leather to create another interesting textural element to the outfit.
