Sport brings people together, the highs and lows and feelings of euphoria, for both fans and people who take part. Our collaboration with FILA presents an opportunity to talk about more than just clothes and to focus on the topic of mental health.
With the collection drawing inspiration from Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums, we focused on the character of Ritchie Tenenbaum and his relationship with mental health. It was here that sparked the idea to partner with MR PORTER’s Health In Mind Charity, powered by Movember.
“Globally, on average, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day” - Movember.
MR PORTER Health In Mind is a charitable initiative launched in July 2019 and looks to open up conversations on mental health among male friendships to talk about their feelings. At Oliver Spencer we are passionate about being able to partner with Health In Mind and donate 10% of all sales in order to help provide much needed resources and help to those in need.We witnessed the importance of sport and exercise during lockdown and how it impacts mental health. Team sport and physical exercise encourages conversations to arise, creating an environment both on the grass and away from sport in the changing room or the walk back home. Being able to collaborate on a sportswear inspired collection with FILA means more than just comfort in clothing, but feeling good on the inside too.
So if it’s a game of tennis, jog or 5-a-side with friends, perhaps it is just a FaceTime call, let's get outside more often and open to the idea of being honest as guys about our wellbeing. It's time to normalise the conversation around men's mental health.
