Double-Breasted Drama: The Tamworth Overcoat

Double-Breasted Drama: The Tamworth Overcoat

Some coats are coveted because of their style. Others because of their exclusivity. Our Tamworth Double-Breasted Overcoat ticks both boxes since only 45 have been made across three colourways. As for the style, the images speak for themselves - it is a classic 4x2 double-breasted with broad notch lapels, cut full-length to finish just below the knee. A single split at the rear keeps the stride easy; two jetted side pockets keep the lines clean. It is substantial in the way a winter coat should be, with a tactile handle that makes it as comfortable as a dressing gown, but the tailoring is sharp enough to sit happily over a suit. It fits true to size, with room beneath for knitwear without losing the line.

The story is in the cloth. Two of the three colourways come in Panes houndstooth, woven in 100% wool: charcoal, for those who like their pattern to whisper, and burgundy/pink, which says the same thing at a rather higher volume. The Sosa cloth in moss green offers a different expression - a 70% wool blend alongside the pure-wool houndstooths. One coat, three temperaments: the quiet one, the extrovert and the one that goes anywhere with whatever you layer under it. Choosing between them is the fun part: charcoal keeps counsel with tailoring, burgundy/pink lifts everything around it, and moss green sits happily with either camp.

However you wear it, the Tamworth is built for the long game: over tailoring during the week, a ribbed knit at the weekend. It gives winter dressing both structure and character. The only question is which expression suits you.
