Chasing The Summer: On The Road to the Isle of Wight

There has been a lot of wishing away the days recently. The summer has been not so much a damp squib as a sick joke. And so we, like you no doubt, have been looking at the skies or today, hoping for something better tomorrow. But you can't go about life like that, so what do you do? Hit the road is what you do. Travel and adventure are the perfect antidotes to the moribund and the miserable, so we packed up some summer bits along with some brand new pieces from the forthcoming Autumn 24 collection and we made a beeline for the Isle of Wight.

If you've ever been to this enchanting rock just off the coast of southern England and a stone's skim from Portsmouth, you'll appreciate that it is quite unlike anywhere else in the British Isles. It seems to have resisted the rapacious influences of modernity, instead settling for a charming old-worldly timelessness with a strong sense of community. With soaring chalk cliffs, stunning sandy bays, and quaint fishing towns, the Isle of Wight is postcard perfect while also being a breeze to get to. No toiletries in small plastic bags, or removing your laptop from your weekend holdall. Just throw everything in the boot and head for the ferry! BBQs on the beach and freshly caught grilled fish awaits!

The OS team did exactly that recently, filling up the Defender with summer kit as well as the new Autumn 24 collection. Given the weather right now, it was the perfect time to shoot the campaign for the latter, some of which you can see in the images here. It's a really textural collection with some striking fabrics and strong silhouettes that you're going to love (we'll keep you posted about when it'll drop).

The summer collection has definitely been influenced by the landscape of the Isle of Wight, given that Oli has a home there. You can see the sand tones and off-white hues in the colours of the coastline, and well as the heather-like taupe and olive green tones that are a feature of the island. It's a very textural place, and the drama of the weather is played out on the facades of many of the old stone buildings. We think the orange amber tones in the collection might have been inspired by six-pint afternoons in various beer gardens but Oli's keeping tight-lipped on that one.

The autumn collection is a smorgasbord of rich colours, modern shapes, and timeless patterns in the way of stripes and checks, combined with some beautifully tactile fabrics that we can't wait to show you. But the cooler days of autumn can wait - we've got some unfinished business with the British summer...
