With the end of the year fast approaching, and the depths of winter not far behind it, it's typically around now that we collectively start to make our big winter coat purchases - those warm behemoths that will protect us from the worst of the elements, while both complementing and elevating our autumn/winter garments. It's not a purchase to be taken lightly because it's likely to be the most expensive item of clothing you buy in any one season. Hence it needs to tick all the boxes that an outstanding winter coat should: quality of construction, provenance of materials, aesthetic, and utility. A good-looking coat is pretty useless if it can't keep you warm when the mercury drops. Conversely, it's no good buying a microwave of a jacket if you can't find a way of incorporating it into your wardrobe. We've created a number of different styles that provide solid winter layers in slightly different ways, depending on your preferences as well as the climate in which you live.

The Big Coat
As the name suggests, this is one big hug of a coat, immaculately tailored in a classic big coat silhouette. It's double-breasted and features a turn-down collar, horn buttons, and a belted reverse, offering quite a traditional tailored shape that it perfect to wear with a smarter winter ensemble, say a wool coat or tailored separates. If you sport a suit for your Monday-Friday, then both the charcoal grey wool style and the rich navy recycled wool version will nicely complement your looks while giving you all the warmth and protection from the elements that you need. It also comes in a beige houndstooth wool which is easier to style in a more relaxed off-duty way. If you like your weekend looks textural and in a muted colour palette, then the beige version will be right on the money.

Arlington Bomber
Outside of those hideous weeks in January and February when various Beasts from the East et al decide to turn on the UK, a warm wool bomber jacket can be all you need to keep stylishly warm. The bomber has long been a much-loved silhouette, with rugged appeal and a masculine attitude. This season, we created our Arlington style, which is a more tailored version compared to the original MA-1 flight jackets issued by the US Air Force. Our wool style feature a turn-down collar, cut from a flecked navy recycled wool blend and features two oversized front patch pockets. With a double-zip front fastening and buttoned cuffs, it's a really versatile piece that traverses smart-casual with ease.

The Grandpa Coat
The Grandpa coat has become one of our most-loved outerwear silhouettes that we've created. It first went into production in 2013 and has been a regular every autumn and winter season since. It's one of those heavy duty winter coats that feels impervious to everything the elements can throw at you. The earlier versions came without a belt detail, but this was added recently to offer a more elevated look. This season's style has been crafted from four different fabrics - a heavyweight cotton corduroy in chocolate brown; a beautiful herringbone wool; a classic navy recycled wool; and a bold ginger and navy check pure new wool. All of them are made in the UK which we're very proud about.
