Styling Out April Showers

Styling Out April Showers

British weather be damned! Just when we thought spring was going to be one long uninterrupted run of blue skies, reality has answered with an unequivocal 'not so fast!'. We're back to typical spring weather this week, with slivers of golden rays punctuated by sudden downpours, all of which has repercussions for your wardrobe.

If the next 10-day forecast is anything to go by, you'll be needing to embrace lightweight, water-resistant fabrics without sacrificing style or comfort. The mercury isn't dropping so this isn't the time to fish out your heavyweight outerwear, but instead think about clever layering underneath lightweight water-repellent jackets, both short and long.

Of the latter, this season's Big Coat ticks all the boxes, given it's crafted in our lightweight Pino 100% recycled polyamide. It's a modern take of the traditional trench coat, cut in a doubled breasted silhouette and featuring a belted closure for a sharp cinched-winch shape. The Big Coat comes in pale khaki as well as a rich chocolate brown, both of which make for really versatile styling options.

We've also used the Pino fabric to create some shorter silhouettes: the Hythe chore jacket, and our Arlington bomber. The Hythe jacket riffs off of classic four-pocket chore jackets, only with a shorter finish than those original bleu de travail shapes, and is super easy to wear with shirts and jersey. It's unstructured, hence incredibly lightweight and easily packable so if the weather does a Jekyll & Hyde on you, you'll be ready. The Arlington jacket is based on a bomber jacket shape, featuring a spread collar and a double-zip fastening, and looks great worn over a simple white tee.

If you prefer more of a techwear aesthetic, you'll want to add our hooded Salcombe jacket to your spring outerwear rotation. Cut in a modern hooded silhouette, this season's Salcombe jacket has been constructed from a water-repellent GOTS-certified cotton-blend ripstop, which is lightweight yet offers great durability With a storm collar and two front flap pockets, the jacket's urban shape is easy to style with jeans, or technical trousers.

The last bastion against unpredictable spring weather is our Lambeth jacket, which has been crafted from water-repellent waxed cotton in both navy and khaki options. This style has been influenced by the classic field jacket as well as traditional flight jackets - hence the faux shearling collar - so it has a really rugged look, despite being lightweight. Style with a white tee for an old-school 'James Dean' vibe and you can't go wrong.
