How to refresh your WFH wardrobe

How to refresh your WFH wardrobe

For many of us, how we work has changed immeasurably over the last 12 months. The coronavirus has completely upended the traditional way of working, which in turn has spun on its head our approach to dressing for work. With no colleagues to see in person (and when we see them digitally it's only from the waist up), no clients to meet, and no friends to catch up with post 6pm, the question remains why get dressed up at all? Well I'm sure most of us have experimented with that suggestion at some point during lockdown, and can bear witness to the fact that not getting dressed up for the day is pretty depressing.

It's no wonder then that many of us have rekindled a relationship with loungewear - those comfortable jersey sweatshirts and trackpants that slip on so easily in the morning. Oliver Spencer's loungewear capsule is full of super-soft organic cotton and supima cotton fabrics, making our hoodies, sweats and tees incredibly comfortable to wear, but even we'll agree that there's only so much loungewear you can tolerate in your quotidian life. Even if you're not intending to leave the house, it's good to mix up your loungewear pieces with slightly more smarter pieces from your casualwear wardrobe, if for nothing else than your own self-respect.

Loungewear has become an integral part of the modern wardrobe, now more so than ever. But it needn't only be equated with lazing around. Combining a loopback sweatshirt with a bomber jacket for example, instantly elevates the loungewear look into something altogether more contemporary. Likewise, instead of styling up your track pants with a matching sweat or hoodie, you can introduce a relaxed-fit blazer and a lightweight crew-neck knit to bring a bit more structure to the outfit. Horizontal-striped knitwear is an easy way to add pattern to the outfit, too, especially when contrasted with the vertical stripes of our joggers.

If you love your sweatshirts and hoodies but don't want to pair them off with track pants, then we have a couple of different trouser options at Oliver Spencer this season that offer a relaxed fit in super-soft cotton fabrics so you get all of the comfort of loungewear but in a classically constructed trouser. The most casual style is our drawstring trouser which is cut loose in the leg for a relaxed fit. Our judo trousers are a slightly cropped style cut with a gradual taper, while our fatigue trousers are a nod to a traditional workwear/military silhouette thanks to the patch pockets on the legs. Each of the styles come in a range of fabrics for Spring/Summer 21, including a lightweight organic cotton seersucker with a cool dimpled finish plus a great cotton/linen blend for the warmer months.
