If you were looking for evidence that summer was coming to an official close and autumn is getting underway, then the last few days have given you plenty. Blue skies one minute followed by biblical torrents of rain the next have a change of season written all over them. It has been a good summer, so we can't complain too much, but the transition into autumn is not all bad. It's a great time of year to reassess your wardrobe, work out the weak spots, get rid of some chaff, and generally spruce up for the business end of the year. 

Dressing for the elements becomes that much more essential this time of year, given the often ominous skies above, which is why lightweight waterproof jackets are one of the key elements to a well-prepped autumnal wardrobe. Fabrics like Gore-Tex and other lightweight synthetic cloths are all well and good when you want that technical look, but for a more classical aesthetic, there are few better wet-weather options than waxed cotton. This season, we've produced two styles in this iconic fabric that lend themselves really well to elevated casualwear. While lightweight, they're also substantial enough to keep you well protected from the elements well into the winter months, offering a tonne of stylish mileage.

First up is the Brixham jacket - a truly unique blouson, being part-inspired by a peacoat and a field jacket. The result is a hybrid jacket cut from water repellent 100% waxed cotton and featuring a 4-button storm fastening. It's a brilliant addition to a smart-casual winter wardrobe and is a doddle to style no matter what your aesthetic preferences are. Personally, we love adding some texture to it with a pair of corduroy trousers and some lightweight knitwear.

Second, is its hooded cousin, the Salcombe jacket. Perfectly protective and stylish to boot, the modern silhouette of the hooded Salcombe jacket fits into any contemporary wardrobe. Cut from the very same water-repellent waxed cotton, and featuring two oversized bellow front pockets with top and side entry, double - zip fastening and a storm guard to keep out the cold, it's a slick option when you're on the move and don't want to get caught out by the elements.

Being constructed from waxed cotton, both of these timeless jackets can be repeatedly coated season after season to ensure their water repellent attributes.
