Thick knits and rugged zips - our favourite chunky knitwear

Thick knits and rugged zips - our favourite chunky knitwear

Did someone say sweater weather? With autumn most definitely upon us here in the UK, it's time to start thinking about firing up a new arsenal of knitwear to take you through the next season, keeping you stylishly warm despite the weather's best efforts.

October and November are great months for chunky knits since you can wear them as pseudo outerwear pieces when the rain holds off. Knitwear doesn't always have to be layered beneath a jacket, especially when you're talking about bolder weaving techniques, colours and patterns. One style that makes absolute sense in this regard is our Zip-through cardigan, which we have created in two tonal styles this season. When worn zipped up it functions exactly like a chunky jumper, but undone it comes into its own as a cardigan/jacket hybrid.

No winter wardrobe would be quite complete without a couple of chunky rollnecks too, offering protection and classic style to boot. This season, we've created a number of iterations of our Talbot rollneck in various weaves, patterns and tones. One style for example is a twist on traditional cable knit, offering a panel of textural interest on on side of the jumper, whereas our Talbot Basing style uses colour to great effect, adapting a gradient knit in muted tones of navy and charcoal (perfect if you like to keep to a pared-back winter palette.

Winter knits are also a great way of introducing colour to your fits, since dyed wool just has a natural richness and warmth. Hence it's why we have used a colour panelling technique on some of our Blenheim jumper styles this season. The upside to adding these different colour elements is that you have greater versatility when styling it up, since you can pick and choose which tones of the jumper you want to complement or clash.

For those of your who prefer a less chunky style - perhaps because you like to layer your knitwear over a blazer for instance - then we have also created a number of Blenheim jumper styles and knitted cardigans in a finer gauge of wool to remove the bulk. The crew necks are perfect for layering over a shirt but under a blazer or blouson depending on how tailored you want to look. The cardigans can be worn as outerwear layers in their own right on warmer days but are fine enough to be layered under a coat or jacket when the weather turns.
