The Coram Jacket - Design Notes

‘I think, in my humble way, there is a massive shift away from the traditional jacket.’
- Oliver Spencer

The fluctuations in menswear are subtle: a button here, a collar tip there, but they convey significant changes in society. In recent years there has been a move away from suiting in every day life. Once a staple part of every office worker’s wardrobe, suits are quickly becoming strictly for special occasions only. The tailored jacket, however, is here to stay. In its evolved forms, the suit jacket becomes the low-cut, casual blazer or, in the case of the Coram jacket, a higher-cut jacket that can be buttoned right up to the collar.

Clean-cut, with an unstructured, pared-down body, the Coram jacket is all elegant simplicity. Based on historic uniform designs, the Coram has a Nehru-inspired collar and is somewhat of a hybrid of tailoring and outerwear. Finished with a traditional welted chest pocket and insert flap pockets, the Coram has a shirt style cuff rather than the classic suit jacket cuff.

Oli himself has been wearing a Coram Jacket for the last decade. He loves that you can just as easily throw it over a jumper or shirt as you can pair it with matching trousers for a modern interpretation of the suit. Its versatility is its strength and Oli believes that this flexibility is the change in dress that men have been waiting for. Gone are the days of rigid rules about what goes with what, today’s men dress for themselves and their busy lives.
