When Rock Rolled with Afrobeat

AW16 began with a man named Ginger Baker...

A drummer and founding member of the band Cream, Baker took the art of dressing as seriously as his music. Our AW16 collection retraces his steps as we look back to the 1970s and his journey from London to Africa. During this trip, Baker immersed himself in the world of afrobeat and collaborated with legendary musician Fela Kuti. This merging of rock and afrobeat styles, and the endless potential of music, is what inspired our collection.

Oli approaches his design for each season through a narrative, and he felt that Baker’s journey fitted perfectly with the aesthetic he wanted to create for AW16. Consistently inspired by London, and the many cultures that intertwine throughout the city, Oli saw the musical collaboration between London and Africa as symbolic.

In celebration of this shared creative experience, we put together some of our favourite musicians for a jamming session. Watch the video and read more.
