The Dalston Roof Park, situated on top of the Print House just off Kingsland Road, was the venue for this month’s Midsummer Night Screen. Airing a George Lucas coming of age film American Graffiti set in California in the 1960s.
With a cold beer in one hand (purchased from a little wooden hut Pop-up Bar) and a Mother Flipper Candy Bacon Double Burger in the other, we settled ourselves down on a carpet of fake grass spread out between the community gardeners' vegetable boxes. The film began when dusk fell and we wrapped ourselves in blankets, underneath the giant blow up roof. We chuckled at the cheesy American comedy and sang along to the rock 'n' roll sound track….
Part way through, just as we had gone to refill our empty glasses a fuse blew which cut the power and we watched the inflatable roof slowly engulf the audience. After an interesting interval during which some folk left, we took our places again on the floor -,this time with extra leg room and enjoyed the rest of the film.
Each event sets the scene of the film with themed music, drinks and food. A entertaining and alternative cinema experience set in unusual venues. Check out their page for the next screening:
